Slappy Valley is the second sub-hub of Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko. Here, the levels take a degree of the fantasy genre as well as animation for their themes. The levels Gex can access here are Mythology Network, Fairytales TV, Anime Channel and the Lizard of Oz boss level.

Layout[]

The hub is divided into two sections. The first section, a forested area containing a small pond and a hill Gex must jump up to reach a bridge taking him to section two, is largely there for players to collect random collectibles and nothing more. The second section is much larger, containing all of the level entrances. The center of the area has groups of flowers in the shape of a G surrounded by a circle of flowers. Straight ahead is the entrance to Mythology Network in the Greek ruins. To the right are the entrance to Fairytales TV and The Abyssmal. To the left are the entrances to Lizard of Oz and Anime Channel. In between Lizard of Oz and Mythology Network is a wanted poster of Gex, which is the last remaining trace of what was once Gtown1, a.k.a. A Fist Full of Geckos, the game’s scrapped second western level.

Trivia[]

  • The main part of Slappy Valley is accessible through the debug menu in the December 30, 1998 prototype.
    • Both the Anime Channel and Lizard of Oz TVs do not have buttons but the screens flip through every level icon in the game.
    • The way to all of the TVs are sealed off in some capacity; Mythology Network and Lizard of Oz are barred by grating, Fairytales TV has a steep slope where the lake is in the final game, and the wall path leading to Anime Channel are not implemented.
      • However, it is still possible to clip through the glass into the Anime Channel room. Doing so renders Gex unable to get back out.
    • There was meant to be a cowboy-themed level located in Slappy Valley.
      • Both this level and the rest of the area's levels can be accessed via debug menu.
