Alfred is Gex's butler and acts as the information provider in Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko. He is usually found standing around in the Gex Cave, but can also be found in various parts of levels as well. He was voiced by Marc Silk.

Background[]

Prior to the beginning of Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko, Gex hired Alfred as his personal butler. He has been a loyal friend and servant to Gex ever since.

When Gex's partner, Agent Xtra, is kidnapped by Rez at the start of the game, Alfred is ready to assist Gex in rescuing her. In the N64 opening, Alfred narrates the introduction for the player. He trains Gex in the training area of Mission Control, so he can brush up on his skills. After some practice, Gex is ready to tackle Rez and save the world once again. Alfred is always close by to further aid his employer.

In the PlayStation ending, Alfred attempts to warn Gex that there is a world emergency but is ignored. In the N64 ending, he tells the player that Gex and Agent Xtra got married and are spending their honeymoon on a cruise. He boasts that Gex wouldn't have succeeded in saving Agent Xtra without his teachings. He bids the player farewell and promises they'll see Gex and him again soon.

Involvement[]

Alfred is found standing in a particular spot in a level or hub, usually near an object that serves some sort of gameplay function. When hit by Gex's Tail Attack, he gives Gex (and subsequently the player) a helpful tip related to this object. These tips are typically a sentence in length. Occasionally, he can be heard off-screen. In these instances, he is usually: congratulating the player for completing a mission, consoling the player for dying, or explaining the rules of a mini-game. For the N64 version, he acts as the sole narrator of the game's story.

February 8th, 1999 prototype[]

Trivia[]

  • He is clearly a parody of Alfred Pennyworth from the Batman franchise.
  • In the December 30, 1998 prototype Alfred will disappear when tail whipped.
  • According to some of Alfred's lines, he lived an adventurous life prior to being Gex's right hand man. In 1917, he was a Tommy gun-toting gangster. And in 1942, he served in World War II. He also at one point visited or lived in Greece.
  • In the February 8th, 1999 prototype, Alfred has a different idle stance and animation when tailed whipped that isn't present in the retail release. It's assumed it was cut because the player model will be too hard to see for players.
